Women In Culture

Origin & reason to be

The worldwide movement #WomenInCulture was launched in May 2019 by Culture For Causes Network during #MuseumWeek 2019 with the financial support of Fondation CHANEL, the institutional support of UNESCO and in partnership with the New York Times.

It aims to celebrate gender equality by underlining the role of women in culture yesterday, today and tomorrow.

In this context, Culture For Causes Network:

  • Organized a series of physical events in cultural institutions around the world (more than 50)
  • Devoted the first day of MuseumWeek to this Cause to engage museums and audiences on this topic
  • Produces video stories in several languages about the History of women in culture and about contemporary women artists
  • Permanently promotes third-parties events that enter into this theme

And more events are to come!

Events in museums

More than 50 events have been organised so far in cultural institutions since May 2019 all over the world. Film screenings, artistic performances, concerts, live video visits, photowalks, lectures, exhibitions, etc. were organized in cultural institutions in France, Brazil, Russia, China, India, UK, USA, Italy, Switzerland, Benin, Ivory Coast, Pakistan, Germany and Belgium.

Our network of cultural institutions is stimulated to organize these events, some of them being directly financed and/or organized by us.

Digital engagement during MuseumWeek
